Majority of Negros' reps
vote to impeach Bautista
Ferrer, Limkaichong, Alejano against move

Most of the congressmen from Negros Occidental yesterday joined the majority in the House of Representatives in voting to impeach Commission on Elections chairman Andres Bautista, overturning a justice committee resolution that had earlier dismissed the complaint against him, Rep. Stephen Paduano (Abang Lingkod partylist) said yesterday.

The Lower House voted 137-75 to impeach Bautista with 2 abstentions, hours after the latter announced that he is resigning from his post effective December 31.

If Bautista's resignation were effective immediately, the impeachment will be moot and academic, Paduano said. moremoremore

Ceneco to collect
P232M by Oct. 25

Central Negros Electric Cooperative will start collecting from its member-consumers the P232 million in “unnominated contract quantities” by October 25, unless the Energy Regulatory Commission reverses its decision, Ceneco general manager Sulpicio Lagarde Jr. said yesterday.

Lagarde said they are not happy to be implementing this, but they are being ordered by ERC. If ERC will stop them from implementing its order or direct them to refund whatever amount they have collected from itsmember-consumers, they will dutifully comply, he said.

If given the choice, they do not want to increase power rates because if the rate of electricity is high, their collection efficiency will be lower and incidence of power pilferages will increase, Lagarde said. moremoremore

Nine local government units in Negros Oriental will compete in the Buglasan Festival street-dancing competition on October 20, that was declared a special non-working day in the province by President Rodrigo Duterte.

The declaration is in line with the celebration of the Buglasan Festival of Festivals, from October 13-22, with 110 events lined up for the occasion.

Earlier, Gov. Roel Degamo and the Sangguniang Panlalawigan passed a resolution, asking Malacañang to declare October 20 as a special non-working holiday, to allow the people of Negros Oriental to celebrate and participate in the revelry...
