Two visiting foreigners and a Negrense were injured in another ambush staged by suspected New People's Army rebels at about 1:15 p.m. yesterday along the national highway of Sitio Sojoton, Brgy. Caliling, Cauayan, Negros Occidental.
Injured were Karl Christer Arvidson, 48, of Brazil, Juliana Eeiko Palmero, 42, of Switzerland, and Jason Tumayao of Brgy Alijiis, Bacolod City.
Lt. Col. Antonio Tumnog, commanding officer of the 1st Negros Island Geographical Battalion, however, said he believes that the targets of the suspected NPA ambushers were the Cauayan policemen, who had responded to a reported robbery incident in the place. .
Ex-soldier shot dead in Murcia

Two unidentified gunmen shot and killed a former Army soldier in Brgy. Amayco, Murcia, Negros Occidental, yesterday.
The victim, identified as Benito Miparanum, an ex-Army soldier, succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds and died on the spot, the Murcia police said.
Senior Inspector Ronald Santillan, Murcia police chief, yesterday said Miparanum was approached and shot by the two gunmen, while he and his wife, delivered their adopted child to the school in the barangay.

Digong to attend Buglasan
President Rodrigo Duterte will be the guest of honor at the opening of the Buglasan Festival of Negros Oriental on October 13 in Dumaguete City, Gov. Roel Degamo said.
He added that Duterte has confirmed his arrival for the opening program of the weeklong Buglasan, in celebration of the festival of festivals in the province.
