COMELEC SAYS
Filing of COCs Thursday
BY CARLA GOMEZ

The filing of certificates of candidacy for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections on October 23 will start Thursday if President Rodrigo Duterte does not sign a law postponing it by then, Negros Occidental Provincial Elections Supervisor Jessie Suarez said yesterday.

The filing of the COCs will be from October 5 to 11, and the campaign period will run from October 12 to 21, Suarez said.

A gun ban is inforce during the election period for the barangay and SK polls that began Sunday and will run until October 30, Suarez also pointed out.

The gun ban and the other election activities will only be halted when the president signs the law postponing polls, which has already been approved by both houses of Congress, Suarez added.

Meanwhile, copies of the COC can be downloaded by those planning to run for office at the Comelec website, he said.

Suarez said the provincial joint security coordinating control center for Negros Occidental has already been set up for the October polls.*CPG
