Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia said he expects the tourist arrivals for the MassKara Festival this month to exceed last year's record, with activities for this 3-week celebration already having started.
Leonardia said he considered that MassKara Festival 2016 was the biggest since the celebration began in the 1980s, but the culture in Bacolod is always to do better than the last.
With the advent of online hotel bookings, he expects local and foreign tourist to increase this year, he said.
‘100 illegal vendors exist'
An inventory conducted by the city government atthe Bacolod Vendor's Plaza and Jeepney Terminal in Brgy. 12, Bacolod City showed that there are about 100 illegal vendors presently occupying the facility, Allyn Luv Dignadice, Administrative Officer IV, saidyesterday.
Dignadice said the inventory was conducted by the market supervisor to determine the identification of illegal occupants and the status of their operations inside the Bacolod Vendor's Plaza.
She said the illegal occupants include 11 fish vendors, two vegetable vendors and 33 sari-sari stores operators.
Hinigaran town to get P6 million
solar-powered irrigation system
The Department of Agriculture-Western Visayas will build the first solar-powered irrigation system in Hinigaran town, south of Negros Occidental, next year.
The project was announced during the two-day visit of DA Secretary Emmanuel Piñol last week and it is now part of the agency's 2018 budget.
The total cost of the project is P6 million, which is part of the P137 million projects turned over and pledged by Piñol in his visit toIlog and Bago City.
