UP Silab charter president
from Neg. Occ. passes away

Milette Locsin Alvarez, 65, charter president of the University of the Philippines SILAB Sisterhood, succumbed to cardiac arrest at the Makati Medical Center Monday night.

Alvarez, of Bacolod City is the daughter of Jose and Erlinda Locsin, and the wife of the late Sonny Alvarez .

“It is a very sad day for us sisters in UP SILAB Sisterhood, COMELEC Commissioner Rowena Guazon said yesterday.

Alvarezin 1972-73 co-founded UP SILAB, sisters to UP SILAK Brotherhood, together with Lourdes Suplido, Judge Frances Guanzon, Melva Gabayeron and Betsy Henares, she said.

The UP SILAK-SILAB confraternity was organized in UP Diliman right after Martial Law was declared,composed of Ilonggo students from Negros and Iloilo, who joined the UP Diliman students who barricaded UP to prevent the Metrocom from entering and arresting students, Guanzon said.

Alvarez graduated from St Scholastica's Academy, Bacolod High School Class '70.*
