USLS-Lopue's paddlers
dominate collegiate event

The University of St. La Salle table tennis team completed its reign in NOPSSCEA Season 37 with a sweep of the men and women's competition held during the weekend at the VMA Global College Gym in Bacolod City.

Supported by the Lopue's Table Tennis Association headed by Leonito Lopue's, the USLS paddlers beat the powerhouse UNO-Recoletos in both men and women's finals.

The men's team, composed of John Paul Gubaton, John Michael Castro, James Saligumba, Cris Lester Rejon and Joemar Junio won all their games en route to a 3-0 victory over UNO-R in the championship round

In the women's team event, the La Sallians prevailed over defending champion UNO-R, 3 - 2.

It was a sweet victory for Jhayren Villanueva, Kimberly Transporto, Stephanie Villanueva and Catherine Samson, who brought back to USLS the title after nine years.

Team manager Leonito Lopue said that when former USLS president Bro. Mawell asked him to help the school by managing the table tennis team last year, he got coach Marell Lagunday to overhaul the training program and keep the players in their best form in time for the NOPSSCEA competition.

“Winning six championships in the 37th edition of the NOPSSCEA is the result of the new program implemented by Coach Lagunday, who recently arrived from a competition in Beijing where she won all her games,” Lopue said.

The La Salle - Lopue's team also won boys' and girl's high school team event, and boys and girls's high school individual event and finished second runner-up in boys' elementary team and individual event of the NOPSSCEA this year.*
