The Department of Agriculture will distribute a total of P20 million in loan assistance to towns and cities in District 6 of Negros Occidental this month, Western Visayas regional director Remelyn Recoter said.
In an interview yesterday, Recoter said Candoni, Hinobaan, Ilog and Cauayan towns, and Kabankalan and Sipalay cities, or the CHICKS area, will receive the loans this month through the Production Loan Easy Access program of the DA.
The loan was one of the promises made by Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol when he went to Ilog Sept. 28 to conduct the “Byaheng Bukid: Tapatan with Manny Piñol” program.

SRA chief urges stakeholders
Administrator Hermenegildo Serafica of the Sugar Regulatory Administration urged sugarcane industry stakeholders, especially farmers, to look beyond sugar prices and instead innovate on how to bring down the cost of production while strategically increasing productivity.
“The only way to go is farm mechanization," he said.
Serafica, who graced the recent turnover ceremony for the soils laboratory and automated weather station projects funded under the Sugarcane Industry Development Act at the L opez Mill District Development Council Inc. in Sagay City, Negros Occidental, said the farmers must avail themselves of MDDC facilities bankrolled under SIDA.
EB Magalona getting
The municipality of EB Magalona in Negros Occidental appears to be getting the confidence of investors, with the numbers noted as slowly increasing this year.
Mayor Marvin Malacon said yesterday that the Lopez Sugar Central invested P23 million in the establishment of a transloading station along the national highway of Brgy. Santo Niño, and construction is now ongoing.
The convenience store 7 Eleven at the poblacion of EB Magalona is now almost complete, with an investment of P5 million to P7 million, Malacon said.
