Guv urges Negrenses on Cinco de Noviembre

“There's a hero in every Negrense. And that heroism, manifested by a strong sense of community and deep concern for the poor, is what we need today.”

That was the message of Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. on the 119 th anniversary of Cinco de Noviembre yesterday.

Cinco de Noviembre marks the Negrense uprising against the Spanish colonizers that led to their surrender, and the establishment of the Cantonal Government of Negros.moremoremore

Bacolod fire
hits 14 houses

Fire hit 14 houses in Purok Kahirup, Cottage Road in Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City, at about 9 a.m. Saturday.

Twelve houses were destroyed while two were damaged, Fire Officer 1 Stanley Mahusay of the Bacolod Bureau of Fire Protection, said yesterday.

The houses, which were close to each other, were mostly made of light materials, Mahusay said. moremoremore

Meat prices in Neg. Occ.
seen to increase 10-15%

Meat prices in Negros Occidental are seen to increase 10 to 15 percent higher than their normal market value next month because of the holiday season, Provincial Veterinarian, Dr. Renante Decena, said.

In an interview Friday, Decena said that as more domestic and foreign tourists visit the province during Christmas, the demand for meat products, especially for chicken and pork meat, and eggs, will also increase.

Ham is also expected to increase in price, especially because it is not produced locally and its supplies are from Manila, Decena also said, adding that transporting in Luzon is costly...
