Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. said yesterday the opportunities for Negros Occidental in the Northern Territory of Australia are huge.
“There are a lot of opportunities for us there, it is up to us to take advantage of them,” said the governor, who led a Negros trade mission to the Northern Territory last week.
‘Free tuition' at NORSU

The Negros Oriental State University will implement effective the first semester of school year 2017-2018, the program of President Rodrigo Duterte on free tuition, as provided for under CHED-DBM joint memorandum circular 2017-1, or the grant of free tuition in state universities and colleges in the country.
However, the grant of free tuition in all NORSU campuses in the province will be limited because of the limited budget allocation from the national government, its president, Joel Limson, said.

NGCP told to improve services
to accommodate excess power

The president of the Negros Oriental Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. yesterday urged government to prod the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines to improve its facilities to accommodate the excess power in Negros Island.
The NGCP currently is apparently incapable of receiving and distributing the excess power to other areas, like Panay and Cebu, and so there is a need for them to increase their transmission services, NOCCI president Edward Du said.
