Negros solon seeking
Duterte's impeachment
It won't prosper, president's men say
BY CARLA GOMEZ

Negrense Rep. Gary Alejano (Magdalo partylist) yesterday filed an impeachment complaint against President Rodrigo Duterte.

However, allies of the president yesterday said the complaint is not likely to prosper.

Local Government Undersecretary Jesus Hinlo, who is from Bacolod, said an impeachment complaint is part of the democratic process.

However, under the present Philippine political landscape and with the high trust rating of the president, Hinlo said he doubts Alejanocould get one-third of the House members to approve an Article of Impeachment finding probable cause to file with the Senate for trial. moremoremore

Let the court decide on SO3 - Negrense officials
BY CARLA GOMEZ

Shocked sugar industry leaders yesterday slammed Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñolfor reportedly saying Sugar Order No. 3 that allows the regulation of high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) entering the country should be deferred pending consultations with soft-drink makers.

Sugar Regulatory Administration chief Anna Rosario Panersaid she could not confirm the statement of Piñol until they have personally talked about it. They are meeting late next week, she said.

Piñol was quoted by the national media as saying “there's a problem with SO 3 of the SRA because it regulates the importation of HFCS, which Coca-Cola uses in producing its soft drinks. Now, Coca-Cola and Pepsi Cola appealed to me, saying they were not properly consulted.” moremoremore

IN DUMAGUETE
BJMP detainee yields ‘shabu'
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

A detainee at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in Barangay Bajumpandan, Dumaguete City, yielded 26 heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets believed to contain shabu while the jail guard on duty was conducting lockup procedure at about 8 p.m. Wednesday.

As soon as the lockup procedure was implemented following a head count, two of the inmates who were still inside the cell of other group of inmates who were already padlocked, requested the jail guard that they wanted to return to their old cell.

Jail Officer 2 Cloyd Cornello Tubog allowed the two inmates to get out and wait for them to pass by at the area where he was monitoring.
