The National Bureau of Investigation apprehended a revenue officer in an entrapment operation yesterday morning for allegedly extorting moneyfrom a client, BIR Bacolod agent-in–charge Renoir Baldovino said.
Nabbed was Revenue Officer 1 Julie S. Hernaez of the BIR Revenue District Office No. 77 in Bacolod City, he said.
Genevieve Buenaflor, operations manager of JP Ramos Trading Corp., a company selling equipment to sugar mills, had gone to the NBI office Tuesday to complain that Hernaez was demanding money for the reduction of their tax due payment, Baldovino said.

The Commission on Appointments yesterday confirmed the appointment of Education Secretary Leonor Briones of Guihulngan City in Negros Oriental.
She was questioned by the commission on the state of her health, particularly her weak knees as she reportedly had to use a wheelchair during plane trips.
Briones, 76, agreed that she did have to use a wheelchair but told them that she is capable enough to perform her duties as Education Secretary, noting that there is “no correlation” on the state of her knees and the state of her brain..
