Lower wage hike,
biz groups appeal

The Iloilo business sectorhas filed an appeal for a reduction in the P25 daily wage hike approved for Western Visayas and Negros Occidental, Weenie Sancho, labor representative on the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board, said yesterday.

The Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry is also considering filing an appeal for a reduction in the new wage hike, its chief executive officer, Frank Carbon, said.

Suspect in killing
of teacher gives up

A suspect in the killing of a teacher on March 11 in La Castellana, Negros Occidental, surrendered yesterday to the police, three days after the incident.

Chief Inspector Gary Alan Resuma, La Castellana police officer-in-charge, saidyesterday that the suspectwhom he identified as Pedro Pacia, 24, sought refuge at the house of his parents in Brgy. Biak-na-Bato in the town, before he decided to give himself up to theauthorities.

Pacia was tagged as a suspect in the stabbing to death of Hernani Octavio Jr., 30 and a teacher, on Saturday in SitioCabadiangan,Brgy. Camandag, La Castellana. moremoremore

‘Drug courier' arrested

A suspected drug courier yielded 11 sachets containing about 10 grams of suspected shabu granules in a transaction with members of the Provincial Intelligence Branch and the Provincial Special Operations Group yesterday afternoon along the road going to the slaughterhouse in Barangay Bajumpandan, Dumaguete City.

Marie Xeanne Tolentino, alias “Shangie”, 27, single, and a resident of Zone 4 in Looc, was arrested for violation of Section 5 of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Senior Insp. Armil Von Alegria said the group received information two weeks ago about the activity of “Shangie” while going in and out of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology facility in Bajumpandan..
