discussion on NIR today
Beefs up defense vs.
Diokno's ‘unconstitutional' claim

Local Government Secretary Ismael Suenoyesterday said the fate of the Negros Island Region will not be taken up at a Cabinet meeting today as expected, and a stronger defense for its retention is still being prepared by his office.

This was after Budget Secretary Benjamin Diokno said the creation of the NIR is unconstitutional, it should have been created by a Republic Act, Sueno told the DAILY STAR.

The NIR was created by virtue of Executive Order No. 183 issued by President Benigno Aquino III on May 29, 2015

Truth will bear us out on non issues, Marañon says

The Office of the Ombudsman for the Visayashas filed criminal and administrative charges against Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. and 10 others, a document furnished the media by the staff of Moises Padilla Mayor Magdaleno Peña stated yesterday.

“I apparently cannot react to anything I have not seen nor received. If ever there is, indeed, this Ombudsman opinion or recommendation, my legal counsel will respond to it accordingly in the proper forum as it would be inimical to answer matters done through trial by publicity, which is what critics of my administration are very fond of doing,” the governor said in response.

In the end, the governor said he is confident that “the truth will bear us out from these non-issues. Our development initiatives at the Provincial government are meant to uplift the lives of marginal sectors, including farmers and other agricultural workers,” he added. moremoremore

The BSP has called on the public to replace the old bills before the deadline at any authorized banks or BSP for this will have no monetary value starting April 1, 2017, a government press release said..
