10 policemen relieved
for sleeping on the job

Ten police officers were relieved from their posts yesterday after they were caught sleeping in their police stations in Bacolod City, Tuesday night.

Supt. Noel Polines, Bacolod City Police Office spokesperson, confirmed to the DAILY STAR last night that the involved cops are now assigned at the BCPO headquarters, following their relief, effective yesterday.

He said the police officers, who came from police stations 2and 10, will be held at the BCPO pending the filing of charges against them. moremoremore

More NIR cops to Mindanao

There could be more police officers assigned in the Negros Island Region up for re-assignment to Mindanao.

Chief Supt. Renato Gumban, NIR police director, raised such possibility but said they have yet to complete the validation of alleged links of some policemen claimed by drug personality Ricky Serenio to have been receiving “protection money” from the Berya Drug Group.

Serenio, who is now under the protective custody of Moises Padilla Mayor Magdaleno Peña, a consultant of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, and two others, linked 35 policemen to the Berya Drug Group. moremoremore

More bridges linking
Visayas islands eyed

CEBU CITY – The construction of the P27.9-billion Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway could pave the way for more bridges linking the islands in the Visayas.

There are plans to also build bridges linking Cebu to Negros Island, and Bohol to Leyte.

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte led the groundbreaking for the CCLEX, the third bridge linking Cebu City to Mactan via Cordova town, Thursday.

Although the President said in jest that “bridges are the refuge of the desperate,” noting that a number of people have jumped off the two existing Mandaue-Mactan bridges, he said the Filipinos may see a nation with bridges..
