English ed firm opening,
recruiting 300 teachers

Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. yesterday hailed the coming of 51Talk, the largest online English education platform in the world, as a boon to the already robust ICT-BPO industry of the province.

Marañon signed the memorandum of agreement with the officials of the 51Talk headed by its Vice President for Philippines Operation, Jennifer Que, for a long-term lease of the second floor area of the Negros First CyberCentre and the use of the Negros Occidental Language and Information Technology Center for the would-be English teachers of the online firm.

“It speaks of additional jobs and it will eventually double or triple the number of recruits given the Negrense mastery of the English language,”Marañon said.

PHL marine resources wealth

Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. presented the riches of the country's marine resources in his speech before the delegates of the 25th year celebration of the Provincial Environment Management Office and the awarding of the Seal of Good Environmental Awards at the SMX Convention Center in Bacolod City yesterday.

Marañon said the richest resources of this country is its marine life which, according to his estimate, can feed the population of China and even Asia.

He said that, if only the Filipinos have enough protection and good management of its marine resources we can have the richest sea environment in the world.

Investments Board
convenes for summit

The Negros Occidental Investment Board met yesterday to tackle the planned Investment Summit of the province and related economic development activities, provincial consultant Rafael Coscolluela said yesterday.

Also raised at the meeting was the establishment of a 38-hectare economic zone near the Bacolod-Silay Airport, Roberto Montelibano, Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry president, said.

He said the final approval for itto become an economic zone is awaiting the signature of the president, and numerous investors have expressed interest in investing in the area.
