BY CARLA P. GOMEZ

The Commission on Elections First Division has dismissed the election protest filed by losing mayoral bet Sheila Saratan against Talisay Mayor Neil Lizares, but it has been elevated to the Comelec en banc since one commissioner gave a dissenting commission.

Lizares said yesterday he has nothing to worry about, he is confident Saratan cannot overcome his lead.

Saratan is set to hold a press conference today to air her side. moremoremore

‘BASOC case already
reviewed by COA'
BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

It is not true that the liquidation of the BASOC funds for which former congressman and former mayor Monico Puentevella has been charged, is still pending and being reviewed by the Commission on Audit.

The truth is that the COA had already denied on Nov. 9, 2016 the petition for review filed by Puentevella in the case filed against him involving the Bacolod Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee funds, Save Bacolod Movement chairman Samuel Montoyo Sr. said yesterday.

Puentevella's spokesperson Sarah Esguerra claimed that the liquidation of the BASOC funds is still pending and being reviewed by the COA and it is premature for the Ombudsman to decide on the case. moremoremore

Coastal patrols in Neg. Or.
assured amid terror threat
BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

The commander of the Joint Task Group Deter of the Armed Forces of the Philippines yesterday assured the public of round-the-clock maritime and coastal patrols in the seas off southern Negros Oriental and neighboring areas.

Philippine Navy Capt. Jorge Ibarra gave the assurance as President Rodrigo Duterte recently ordered to secure the waters between Dipolog in Zamboanga del Norte in Mindanao, and Dumaguete City, the capital of Negros Oriental, to prevent terrorist groups from spilling over their atrocities in Marawi City.

Ibarra said that even before the President's pronouncement, they have already been carrying out 24/7 seaborne patrols before the Inabanga, Bohol incident.
