DepEd sets meet
on delay in classrooms
BY CARLA GOMEZ

A meeting between Department of Education and Department of Public Works and Highways engineers will be held in Dumaguete City this month to find ways to hasten the completion of much-needed senior high school classrooms in the Negros Island Region, DepEd NIR Regional Director Gilbert Sadsad said yesterday.

Classes started Monday with senior high school classes having to be held in two shifts and in make-shift crowded classrooms because the DPWH failed to complete 500 of them in the Negros Island Region, and 360 in Bacolod City, DepEd officials said.

Sadsad said the DepEd engineers will discuss the status of the unfinished classrooms after which they will meet with the DPWH representatives to discuss their concerns. moremoremore

P188,000 in ‘shabu' seized
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

Joint anti-drug operations of the police and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency led to the seizure of about P188,700 worth of suspected shabu and dried marijuana leaves, and the arrest of three suspects in Amlan town and Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, Monday.

The buy-bust operation in Sitio Pondol, Brgy. Jugno, Amlan, which was a joint operation of the Provincial Police Drug Enforcement Unit, PDEA and the town police, resulted in the arrest of Anthony Contad, alias Fausto, and Prince Shalom, both of the barangay.

Their arrest yielded about 15 grams of suspected shabu, with an estimated market value of P165,000, and P1,000 in marked money.
