USAT beats Doña Montserrat
To claim NBTC-Silay Leg title

Sagay City's Universal School of Applied Technology (USAT) turned back Doña Montserrat Lopez Memorial High School of Silay City, 96-90, in Game 2 of the best-of-3 finals to win the Silay Leg of the National Basketball Training Center (NBTC) at the Natalio G. Velez Gym in Silay City.

USAT had a one game advantage going to Game 2 after a Game 1 forfeiture when Doña Montserrat showed up for the game without any team official on their bench.

The PioManlangit-mentored USAT made sure that there will be no third game in the finals by winning Game 2.

USAT took an early lead at 27-21 in the first quarter as John Rey Villacastin scored 9 points while teammates Rommel Demiar and Roslier Tagalog contributed 5 points.

John Louie Hechanova kept the Silay team into the game by scoring 8 points in the opening quarter.

Doña Montserrat bounced back in the second quarter with an 18-15 run to get closer at 39-42 with Adrian Lachica and Ariel Salavante combining for 8 points while NicoAbaquita scored 5 for USAT.

A 20-point combined efforts from Jeroniel Guirnela and Jason Mendoza gave the Silay team the lead at 68-65 in the third quarter, eclipsing USAT's five hits from the 3-point area courtesy of Abaquita and Christian Artajo.

Abaquita continued to sizzle for USAT in the fourth quarter as he scored 8 points, the same output delivered by his teammates Kenneth Espinosa and Jay-L Tabotabo.

He led USAT to victory with 25 points while Espinosa tallied 14 and Villacastin with 13 points.

Hechanova topscored for Doña Montserrat with 23 points while Salavante added 15 points while Guirnela and Mendoza with 14 points each.*
