Police in control: Wanky

The series of killings in Bacolod City that claimed the lives of several individuals in the last two months is considered “alarming” by the city government and the local police, who are now taking steps to address it.

Senior Supt. Jack Wanky, officer-in-charge of the Bacolod City Police Office, said during a press conference yesterday that, despite the killings, the police is still in control of the situation.

Wanky said he had asked all the stations' commanders Tuesday to strengthen their anti-criminality campaigns, aside from the standing order on the war on drugs. moremoremore

Sandigan orders arrest of
Degamo for graft raps

The Sandiganbayan has ordered the arrest of Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo for graft, in connection with his alleged illegal use of the P480-million calamity fund from the national government for the province's infrastructure projects in 2012.

Also ordered arrested were Degamo's co-accused, provincial treasurer Danilo Mendez and provincial accountant Teodorico Reyes.

The arrest order was issued Tuesday after the Sandiganbayan Third Division upheld its finding of probable cause to try the respondents for their cases..
