The Court of Appeals granted Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia a 60-day temporary restraining order enjoining the Department of Interior and Local Government from implementing the Dec. 2, 2016 joint resolution of the Office Ombudsman ordering his dismissal along with nine other incumbent and former city officials.
The Office of the Ombudsman had ordered the dismissal from service of Leonardia and nine others for grave misconduct and gross neglect of duty involving the alleged illegal procurement of furniture and fixtures for the Bacolod Government Center amounting to about P50 million.
Wanky vows to go after
scalawag cops in drugs

The new Bacolod City Police Office head, Senior Supt. Jack Wanky, who assumed yesterday, saidhe will go after police scalawagswho are engaging in illegal drugs.
With the issues involving policemen and drugs in Bacolod, Wanky said he will need the help of the public to identify those erring policemen and have them investigated.

Two men shot dead

A kagawad and another man were shot dead by unidentified assailants in La Libertad, Negros Oriental, yesterday afternoon for still unknown reasons.
An initial police report identified the first victim as Jojo Gargar Gantalao, 45, married, a kagawad, and resident of Sitio Dalakit in Barangay San Jose, La Libertad town.
