The Kilusang Pagbabago-Negros Island Region said it strongly protests the massive importation and use of High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) by various industrial users and food processors.
In its statement of concern dated January 6, the group said the massive importation of HFCS undermines the sugar industry, sugarcane growers and farm workers.
“We call on the Sugar Regulatory Administration to assert its role in the protection of the sugar industry, the sugarcane growers and the farmworkers by using its powers to put an end to this massive importation and ensure the fair meeting of interests of various sugar producers, sugar users and end consumers,” the statement said.
