A Negrense claiming to be an Army “colonel”, is now in jail, after he and a retired Army sergeant were arrested in Escalante City, Negros Occidental, for usurpation of authority and illegal recruitment.
Supt. Leonardo Borromeo, Escalante City police chief, yesterday said that the arrested fake Army colonel, identified as Ricky Benasas, engaged in the recruitment of Army reservists, for a fee.
Benasas collected money from the recruits without the authority and approval of the 605th Community Defense Center, 6th Regional Community Defense Group of the Army Reserve Command, Borromeo said.

positive for drugs

Nine members of the Philippine National Police in the Negros Island Region have been charged for grave misconduct, after testing positive for illegal drugs use, records of the Police Regional Office 18 showed.
Previously, PO1 Ryan Lomugdang, who was formerly assigned at the Bacolod City Police Office, was dismissed from the police servicealso for drug use, police records showed.
Three of them are assigned at the Bacolod City Police Office, four at the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office and two are members of the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office.

Dumaguete airport
extends operations

The Dumaguete-Sibulan airport in Negros Oriental is permanently extending its hours of operations up to 7 p.m. to accommodate late-hour or delayed flights, especially departures to Manila.
Mark Michael Anthony Diamaoden, officer-in-charge of the local Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines, said yesterday the permanent hours of operations at the Dumaguete-Sibulan airport will now be from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Previously, the airport operated only from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., said Diamaoden, who assumed the post December 1..
