Duterte seeks details
on sugar smuggling

President Rodrigo Duterte and Customs Commissioner Nicanor Faeldon last night asked for detailed data on sugar smuggling and were briefed on the sugar industry's concernsand contributions to the country.

Sugar Regulatory Administration chief Anna Rosario Paner and former SRA head Bernard Trebol, appeared before the Cabinet in Malacañang presided over by the president to present the case of the sugar industry.

“We presented highlights of the sugar industry, data on HFCS (High Fructose Corn Syrup), economic contributions, and specific action items we wanted to be made known to the president,“ Paner said. moremoremore

to study redistricting

Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia yesterday said he will form a committeeto study the proposed creation of a new legislative district in Bacolod City.

Leonardia said they have not yet received the communication of Bacolod Rep. Greg Gasataya on the matter.

Gasataya said he is seeking the position of the officials of Bacolod City on the proposed creation of a new legislative district in the city as one of the requirements of the House Committee on Local Government, aside from a Sanggunaing Panlungsod resolution. moremoremore

3 meted life for drugs

The Regional Trial Court Branch 30 in Dumaguete City yesterday sentenced two cousins and a man to life imprisonment after they were found guilty of selling and possessing shabu in 2015.

Cousins Alan Paul and Christopher, both surnamed Cariño, were each meted life imprisonment for delivering 4.74 grams of shabu to a police-poseur buyer, in violation of Section 5, Article II of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, in March 2015. They were fined P500,000 each.

Richard Ramos Gonzales was also sentenced to life behind bars and an additional 14 years. He was arrested May 27, 2015 during a buy-bust operation conducted by the Provincial Intelligence Branch in the housing site in Cadawinonan, Dumaguete, where seven more sachets of shabu were seized from him.
