The war against illegal gambling in the Negros Island Region is on.
All operators and personnel who engage in illegal gambling will be arrested, Chief Supt. Renato Gumban said, in a statement issued by the Police Regional Office 18 Public Information Office.
Gumban ordered all police chiefs tostop all illegal gambling activities within NIR.

Fire Officer 3 Ricardo Catalan died with his boots on yesterday.
Catalan, a member of the Bureau of Fire and Protection, was electrocuted, as he and his colleagues, were putting out a fire that destroyed 13 houses at the Villarante Subdivision in Brgy. 1 poblacion, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental.
Fire Supt. Fred Trajeras, Negros Island Region BFP officer-in-charge, said yesterday thatCatalan, who was wearing a protective suit, may have been hit or had accidentally touched a live wire, while performing his duties, as a fire fighter.

DENR seizes 38 wood keels

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources in Negros Oriental is conducting a thorough investigation on the illegal manufacture of wooden keels believed to be for a supposed government project in Tayasan, also in the province.
Viernov Grefalde, OIC Provincial Environment and Natural Resources officer, said yesterday that an administrative hearing will be conducted Thursday or Friday to determine who shall be held liable for the violation.
Grefalde confirmed that personnel of the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office in Ayungon town, led by forest ranger Mateo Emperado, with the assistance of the Tayasan police, had apprehended 38 wood keels made of lauan and almaciga during massive operations Friday evening. .
