CHED appoints
education dean

Dean Earl Jude Paul Cleope of the Silliman University College of Education in Dumaguete City was appointed by the Commission on Higher Education recently as one of the assessors for the Institutional Sustainability Assessment, effective Aug. 1, 2017 to Dec. 21, 2019.

A press release from the University said that ISA was established by CHED to help Higher Education Institutions develop Internal Quality Assurance systems that will enable them to perform effectively and efficiently, and meet their desired outcomes and performance targets.

ISA assessors are tasked to assist CHED in assessing the IQA systems of HEIs using the ISA framework; provide feedback to the Technical Working Group on ISA on how to improve ISA policies, procedures, and instruments; assist in reviewing and finalizing the ISA narrative reports; and assist the TWG-ISA in orienting public and private HEIs within their region, CHED central and regional offices, and other stakeholders by using the ISA tool.*


FPE-IEMS biodiversity conservation cited

The Foundation for Philippine Environment cited the Institute of Environmental and Marine Sciences of Silliman University in Dumaguete City as one of its valuable partners in biodiversity conservation and sustainable development for 25 years now.

IEMS adjunct professor Aileen Maypa and Clarissa Reboton received the plaque of recognition during the FPE's biennial National Regional Advisory Committee-Partners-Expert Advisory Pool Meeting held recently inTalisay City, Negros Occidental.

Silliman was particularly recognized for its valuable role in the production of the Coral Reef Rehabilitation and Reef Fish Recovery guidebook, one of the major outputs of the project “Fish Recovery in Typhoon Damaged Reef” which IEMS carried out on FPE funding.

Maypa and Reboton were part of the FPE-funded project as project investigator and project researcher, respectively.*RG
