A medical mission

LA VIDA NEGRENSE

The Women of Wonders, spearheaded by civic lady Inday Pefiangco, in cooperation with the Mariano Lim Foundation, and with the support of barangay officials, recently held a medical mission at the activity hall of the A. Chan Building in Bacolod City.

It was a heartbreaking moment to see hundreds of indigent patients fall in line and waited for their turn to avail of eyeglasses and medical services from healthcare professionals. More than 300 recipients benefited from this charitable activity of the WOW group, a tradition where the civic ladies religiously organize every three months in various barangays of the city.

The medical mission was very well organized. Fifty WOW members and officers attended the noble mission. The activity hall of A. Chan was divided into three main corners where patients were classified according to the services they want to avail of, such as dental, optical, and medical. Four medical doctor volunteers, an optometrist volunteer, a dentist volunteer and nurses assisted the medical practitioners. Some 120 adults were given free reading glasses and 100 persons availed of free tooth extraction, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Marapara.

After the medical mission, the civic ladies and doctors were treated to a sumptuous lunch at the Marapara Golf and Country Club, sponsored by businesswoman Lina Lim, who organized the activity in honor of her late husband, Mariano.*
