Operatives of the Optical Media Board and policemen seized on Friday assorted pirated digital video discs worth P13.5 million during simultaneous raids at the public market in Brgy. 1 poblacion, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental.
Supt. Rheas Santos,Kabankalan City police chief, said yesterday that the simultaneous operations yielded 97 sacks of fake DVDs and compact discs.
But no one was arrested during the operations of the OMB and the Kabankalan City police, as several of the market stalls were abandoned by their owners during the simultaneous raids, she added.
Last year, P27M worth of pirated DVDs and CDs were also seized by OMB operatives from the stockrooms of three commercial establishments at the downtown area of Bacolod City.
It was observed, however, that the selling of pirated DVDs in Bacolod City resumed in previous months. Each pirated DVD is sold from P20 to P50 each.
Selling and distribution of pirated DVDs and CDs are violations of Republic Act 9239, or the Optical Media Board Act.
Santos said the confiscated DVDs ad CDs were brought bythe OMB operatives to Manila for evidence purposes.*GPB
