5 slain Negrenses in Marawi

Five Negrense soldiers, who were among the 129 government forces killed fighting ISIS-inspired Maute terrorists in Marawi City, were awarded yesterday with posthumous recognitions of the Order of Lapu Lapu, Kalasag rank by President Rodrigo Duterte.
The distribution of posthumous awards was made yesterday as the nation marked National Heroes Day at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Taguig City that was spearheaded by Duterte.
The awards were received by the families of five Negrense slain soldiers, who were 2Lt. 2Lt. Macglen Abuyabor of Bais City, Negros Oriental, SSgt. Joseph Villanueva of La Castellana, PFC Ramonito Occena III of Sipalay City, Cpl. Ariel Arquio of Cauayan, and Corporal Arjhay Baroa of San Carlos City, all in Negros Occidental.
SUV kills nurse, ma injured

A nurse died while her mother was injured when they were ran over by a Montero Sports SUV at the parking area of Grand Regal Hotel in Barangay Singcang-Airport, Bacolod City, at about 8:40 a.m. Saturday.
Joy Gabriel, 28, and Mersidita Gabriel, 59, of Barangay Cabuguason in Pontevedra town, Negros Occidental, were both rushed to the Dr. Pablo O. Torre Memorial Hospital, Police Officer 2 Jose Marie dela Paz, duty traffic investigator, said in his report.

‘Mentally-ill' man kills ma

A “mentally-deranged” man stabbed dead his mother, and allegedly ate her flesh, in Barangay Boloc-boloc, Sibulan, Negros Oriental Sunday.
The victim was identified as Josefina Manaban, 86, a widow, of Purok 5, Boloc-boloc.
Police Officer 3 Earl Ahmad Diaz identified the suspect as Roger Manaban, 52, married, who was caught by the police in possession of the murder weapon, and with bloodstains on his shorts, T-shirt, and face. .
