Preparations are underway for the construction of the longest bridge in the country, the proposed Panay-Guimaras-Negros bridge, Secretary Mark Villar of the Department of Public Works and Highways announced on Saturday.
A team will go to Iloilo this month to start the plans for the construction of the bridge, Villar said in Iloilo City Saturday where he led the inauguration of the PHP134.91 million Nabitasan-San Rafael by-pass road and the PHP40.2 million Iloilo River Esplanade-Phase 3.

The owner of a factory producing fake cigarets in Purok Riverside, Barangay Bata in Bacolod City, and a recruiter will face charges for human trafficking and violation of the National Internal Revenue Code, Senior Inspector Jun Rey Batadlan, Bacolod Station 3 commander, said yesterday.
The police rescued 42 workers, including 14 minors from Lanao del Norte, at the factory Friday.
The charges for trafficking of the 14 minors will be filed by the police Women and Children's Protection Desk,and the Bureau of Internal Revenue will file the case for violation of the National Internal Revenue Code, he said.

Rebels to blame for non-dev't in
countryside, Lorenzana says
MANILA - The Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army is the group responsible for the non-development of rural areas due to the ongoing "armed struggle" against the government, Department of National Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said.
He was reacting to the statement of National Democratic Front of the Philippines spokesperson Fidel Agcaoili, who tagged him as a "peace spoiler".
