Cops rescue 41 workers
at fake cigarette factory

About 41 workers, 17 of them minors, were rescued from a factory of alleged fake cigaretsV in Barangay Bata, Bacolod City, yesterday.
Supt. Ronaldo Palomo, Bacolod Police deputy city director for administration, said the minors were Maranao people from Balo-i, Lanao del Norte.
They were recruited to repack products in Bacolod, Palomo said, adding that the workers were restricted at the working area and were not allowed to enter other parts of the warehouse.
Duterte wants federalism
in place by 2019: Arugay

Assistant Secretary Romulo Arugay of the Presidential Legislative Liaison Office said the conversion from the present form of government to a federal form is being fast- tracked because the President wants federalism in place by 2019.
Arugay said he firmly believes that federalism will be implemented before the term of President Rodrigo Duterte ends.
“The people really want change in government, and I am positive that we will have a new form of government in due time. Drastic changes are about to come,” he said.

Education a privilege,
Robredo tells students

Vice President Leni Robredo stressed the importance of education during the Students' Assembly at the Negros Oriental State University in Dumaguete City yesterday.
She said that being students of the only state university in Negros Oriental is a privilege and she hopes they will not waste it, and to appreciate the gift and pay it forward.
In her speech, she said education is a great equalizer, and is the answer to poverty..
