As regional offices start shutdown

The loss of jobs for casual employees and the slowing down of services is expected with the abolition of the Negros Island Region, some regional directors said yesterday.

President Rodrigo Duterte Monday signed Executive Order 38 revoking Executive Order 183 that created the Negros Island Region (Region 18) composed of the provinces of Negros Occidental and Oriental.

Negros Occidental and Oriental will revert back to Western Visayas (Region 6) and CentralVisayas (Region 7) , respectively, he said. moremoremore

‘Security could be affected'

The dissolution of Negros Island Region could affect the security of the island, Senior Insp. Armilyn Vargas, Police Regional Office-18 spokesperson, said.

Vargas said it is easier to protect a territorial domain which is only an island, compared to a situation where the police offices of PRO-18 are brought back to PRO-7 and PRO-6, where the communication, direction and command comes from another island.

Executive Order 38 signed by President RodrigoDuterte states that, "The provinces of Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental shall revert to Region VI and Region VII, respectively." moremoremore

Fire razes dead man,
4 houses in Dumaguete

A fire razed three houses and damaged another, including the remains of a man, during a wake early yesterday in Dumaguete City.

Neighbors and friends attending the vigil ran to safety, leaving behind the coffin of their departed one, when they noticed that fire was eating up a portion of the house in Purok Masanagon, Barangay Mangnao, in the city.

A motorist reported the fire to the Bureau of Fire Protection at 2:25 a.m. When firefighters arrived, the fire had already engulfed the three houses built of mixed materials and partially damaged the fourth one.
