Bacolod set for ASEAN
historic lighting up rites

The Bacolod City is one of the 76 local government units selected to join the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) Landmark Lighting Ceremonies that will be held simultaneously around the country 7 p.m. tomorrow, in celebration of the regional aggrupation's 50th founding anniversary.

The Bacolod celebrations will be presented by the local government and the Department of Education. It will be held at the Bacolod City Government Center grounds and will be highlighted by the first-ever performance of a 1,000-voice choir composed of students from the city's public schools, and a street party, a city government press release said.

A 6-foot tall fiberglass lantern with incandescent bulbs, that features the ASEAN logo and colors, anahaw leaves, and Sampaguita flowers, will be lighted up at the BCGC, the press release said. moremoremore

Answer tax complaint

The Office of the President ordered former Bacolod mayor Monico Puentevella to submit within 15 days his verified answer, not a motion to dismiss,to the complaint of Samuel Montoyo Sr. for grave abuse of authority and gross neglect of duty, for allegedly collecting real property tax pursuant to an ordinance which was earlier declared null and void by the Department of Justice.

The order dated July 12, was signed by acting deputy executive secretary Ryan Alvin Acosta.

Montoyo said the case was elevated to the Office of the President on December 2015. moremoremore

City Vet ineffective, dad says

A Dumaguete councilor has claimed recently that the City Veterinary Office, headed by Dr. Lourdes Socorro, is ineffective in performing tasks, like the elimination of rats and cockroaches in the city public market.

Councilor Joe Kenneth Arbas said Socorro had also miserably failed to implement other tasks including the implementation of the Dog Pound Ordinance, series of 2004.

He blamed Socorro for what he believes is negligence on the part of the city veterinary officer in pursuing the construction of a dog pound that has a budget of P500,000, and P1,400 for the fabrication of the mobile holding pens at P60,000 each, for non-poblacion barangays..
