Security in place for festival: PNP

About 300 to 400 policemen will secure the 24th Panaad sa Negros Festival set at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City, Saturday to April 30, with a larger influx of visitors expected this year.

Police Supt. Irvin Glenn Provido, deputy provincial director for operations of theNegros Occidental Police Provincial Office, said thatwhile they have no intelligence reports of any threats to the festivalthey need to beef up security versus petty crimes and ensure traffic control.

Ma.LinaSanogal, MassKara Festival executive director and action officer, said that with several national conventions going on in Bacolod timed with the festival more guests are expected.

The policemen assigned to the festival will come from the Negros Occidental police offices with the support of other government law enforcement units, including the Philippine Coast Guard's canine unit, Provido said.

There will be tighter security check on vehicles entering the park, he said. The public is reminded not to leave their valuables inside their vehicles, Provido added.

There will also be designated parking areas, including those for vehicles with car passes, he added.*CPG
