Ma of six gets life term
for selling shabu to cop

A 35-year-old mother of six was sentenced to life imprisonment yesterday for selling shabu to a policeman in a buy-bust operation.

Bacolod Regional Trial Court Executive Judge, Raymond Joseph Javier, found Rhea Diaz Apelado guilty beyond reasonable doubt of violation of Section 5, Article III of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 for selling .03 gram of shabu in exchange for P300 to PO2 Alexander Bata-anon Jr. in PurokSigay, Barangay 2, Bacolod City, on June 7, 2012.

Aside from the penalty of life imprisonment, Apelado was also ordered to pay a fine of P500,000. .moremoremore

Capitol gears up for
likely drought

The Negros Occidental provincial government is readying mitigating measures against a drought that could hit the province at the end of the year, Acting Provincial Agriculturist Japhet Masculino said yesterday.

Masculino said cloud seeding measures could be adopted.

The governor designated him acting provincial agriculturist for 60 days that was supposed to coincide with the suspension of provincial agriculturist IgmedioTabianan that was to end in May, he said. moremoremore

Dumaguete deploys 60
‘smoke-free' enforcers

The Dumaguete government deployed 60 smoke-free enforcers around the city to implement provisions of City Ordinance No. 94, series of 2011, in relation to Republic Act No. 9211, which regulates the packaging, use, sale, distribution and advertisements of tobacco products.

Joey Abella, a member of the Smoke-Free Council in Dumaguete, said they also conducted a reorientation course to all the smoke-free enforcers, and about 15 violators were caught smoking in public places of the city.

He said the smoke-free enforcers are now complete with uniforms and will be issued citation tickets, first offense is a fine of P500 aside from undergoing a lecture about the ill-effects of smoking with an option to undertake a community service.. .
