Serenio's brother killed,
link to drug exposé eyed

The younger brother of Ricky Serenio, a self-proclaimed Berya drug group paymaster, was shot dead inPurok Sampaguita 1, Barangay Singcang-Airport in Bacolod City, at about 12:15 a.m. yesterday.

Ricky Serenio had earlier linked members of the Philippine National Police and National Bureau of Bureau of Investigation to the drug trade, which has led to their transfer out of Negros Occidental. He also reportedly has plans to issue a supplemental affidavit naming more persons engaged in the drug trade.

His brother, WilmarSerenio, 31, of Barangay Singcang-Airport, succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds, a police report said. moremoremore

PNP, AFP step up measures,
on full alert for Holy Week

The Philippine National Police in Negros Oriental remains on full alert as it steps up security measures for the observance of Holy Week as people are expected to flock to the provinces for the long weekend.

Acting provincial police director, Senior Supt. Henry Biñas, said yesterday that they also have their own version of Oplan Ligtas Biyahe (operation plan for safe travel) not only to be instituted during the Holy Week but throughout the summer.

Apart from the routine deployment of uniformed personnel for foot and mobile patrols, police visibility will be increased and tightened in areas of convergence..
