The entire police force of Bacolod City has been placed on full alert status, while the Land Transportation Office will start today its OplanLigtas-Byahe, in connection with the celebration of Holy Week.

AllLTO district offices in Negros Occidental will launch today their OplanLigtasBiyahein anticipation of the influx of passengers at terminals for the Holy Week, Renato Novero, LTO-Bacolod head, said yesterday.

Novero said they will deploy personnel at terminals to strictly monitor buses and ensure that there is no overloading, as part of the safety measures. moremoremore

coastal road bill filed

A bill providing for the construction of a coastal road traversing Bacolod, Talisay, Silay andVictorias cities and E.B. Magalona town in Negros Occidental, authored by Rep. Alfredo AbelardoBenitez (Neg. Occ., 3 rd District) and Bacolod Rep. Greg Gasataya, was filed at the House of Representatives, recently.

Gasataya said the coastal road, estimatedto be about 35.8 kilometers long,will start in Bacolod City and connect to Victorias City.

The construction of the project, when completed, will open new areas for development in Bacolod and in the third district, he said. moremoremore

Former cop killed
in police shootout

A former policeman died in an alleged shootout with the police yesterday, after an entrapment operation through a buy-bust in Brgy. San Jose, Tanjay City, in Negros Oriental.

The subject of the entrapment operation, identified as Rey Antonio Saga, a former policeman, allegedly fired his gun while fleeing and being chased by policemen.

Senior Supt. Henry Biñas, provincial police director of Negros Oriental, in his report to the Police Regional Office 18, said operatives of the NORPPO Drug Enforcement Unit and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency returned fire and hit Saga, who was fleeing on a motorcycle..
