AFTER DUTERTE SACKS SUEÑO
BY CARLA GOMEZ

The Negros Island Region has lost an ally with the dismissal by President Rodrigo Duterte of Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Ismael Sueno for“loss of trust and confidence”.

But Local Government Undersecretary Jesus Hinlo yesterday said the fate of the NIR does not depend on Sueño, it depends on the president.

Even without Sueño, Hinlo said he is still at the DILG and definitely he will continue the lobby for the retention of the NIR. moremoremore

Senior police officers come and go in Negros Island Region, with Chief Supt. Renato Gumban relinquishing his command of Police Regional Office 18 next month.

This is because Gumban will reach the mandatory retirement age of 56 on May 21.

But the change in PRO 18 leadership has been scheduled on May 19, with PNP chief Ronald de la Rosa as the presiding officer at the turnover of command ceremony. Gumban said this when he bade farewell to members of the Regional Advisory Council for Police Transformation and Development during its regular meeting yesterday at Camp Alfredo Montelibano Sr. in Bacolod City. moremoremore

More cops for NIR sought
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

Negros Island Region lacks 4,076 police personnel to meet the minimum police-to- population ratio of one policeman for every 500 population.

At present, the Police Regional Office 18 has a manpower strength of 3,947, compared to the authorized strength of 8,023 police personnel, based on the population of Negros island.

This prompted the Regional Advisory Council for Police Transformation and Development, chaired by former Bacolod Mayor Luzviminda Valdez, to pass a resolution yesterday seeking for the increase of quota in the recruitment of neophyte police officers for PRO 18..
