‘There's magic in Negros'

“There's magic in Negros Island and Magic Island is the first step to its discovery.”

That was the promise of Rep. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3 rd District) yesterday at the groundbreaking of the P600M Magic Island theme park in Barangay Guinhalaran, Silay City.

The theme park that is expected to boost the economy and tourism industry of Silay City and Negros Occidental will, hopefully, be ready for a soft opening by the summer of next year, he said. moremoremore

Queen of Peace Church trouble:
SJI official claims priest hit him

Masses at the Queen of Peace Church in Bacolod City resumed yesterday, after a commotion led to the cancellation of its 5:30 p.m. Saturday mass.

It was Bishop Patricio Buzon who decided to cancel the Saturday mass at the Queen of Peace Church located at St. John's Institute, not the SJI Board of Trustees, SJI BOT president Cesar Villanueva said at a press conference yesterday.

The bishop could not be reached for comment yesterday but a source said he may issue a statement today. moremoremore

3 women among six
meted life for drugs

Three women were among the six persons sentenced to life imprisonment for violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, in Negros Oriental recently.

Regional Trial Court Branch 30 Presiding Judge Rafael Crescencio Tan Jr. convicted Josephine Cabasag, Ma. Del Pilar Rosario Casa, Cristina Cagas, Elvira Pinili Delica, Sir Kenneth Joseph Montesor and Leo Ray Awid Imbo, for violation of RA 9165.

Cabasag was arrested September 21, 2015 in a buy-bust operation, with 4.38 grams of shabu, and 27 additional sachets containing shabu, weighing 278.12 grams in all..
