Bishop urges as massacre, ML remembered

"Let us not have social dementia, let us not commit the mistakes of the past over and over again."

That was the call of San Carlos Bishop Gerardo Alminaza in his homily at a mass at the Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church in Escalante City, Negros Occidental, yesterday morning to mark the 31 st anniversary of the Escalante Massacre.

“Let  us not allow the continued repeat of the social ills prevailing 31 years ago that led to the gunning down of 20 protestors and the wounding of more than 30 in Escalante City,” Alminaza said. moremoremore

‘Oplan RODY' jail
clean-up enforced

The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in Negros Occidental yesterday enforced its Oplan RODY, which aims to cleanse jail facilities of prohibited drugs and other contraband.

Senior Supt. Hernane Grande, BJMP regional director for Negros Island Region, yesterday supervised the removal of 15 “kubos (huts)” inside the Negros Occidental District Jail in Brgy. Tabunan, Bago City, to further deny hiding places for contrabands of detainees.

Heightened alert in
port of Dumaguete continues

The Philippine Ports Authority continues to implement a heightened alert status at the port of Dumaguete as a result of the Davao bombing more than two weeks ago since the city is a very strategic place for possible spillover of criminal activities from Mindanao.

PPA port manager Sarah Mijares said that access to the port is limited, and ambulant vendors are denied entry as they can be a security threat or anybody else who have no business inside the port.

Two of the vendors recently scaled the fence of the perimeter near the reclaimed area to sell their wares inside, but they were caught by the PPA police and were detained..
