A bomb scare in a bank at the downtown area in Bacolod City and a bag left at the public plaza reportedly caused fear to bystanders, yesterday.

The first incident took place at a bank at Gatuslao Street, where two Bisaya-speaking persons warned they were leaving a bag containing a bomb, at the area.

Denny Montoya, bomb expert of the Bacolod City Police Office-Explosive Ordnance Division, said he conducted an ocular inspection at the bank but it turned negative for any bomb or explosive. moremoremore

5 in shootout face
drugs, gun raps

Five persons, aside from the barangay kagawad who was shot dead, may face illegal drugs and gun charges, after the shootout between them and the police at Rosario Heights Subdivision in Barangay Taculing, Bacolod City, Tuesday.

Rodolfo Gayagas Jr., 46, a kagawad of Bacong-Montilla in Bago City, Negros Occidental, was killed on the spot during the shootout, a police report said.

Barangay Bacong Captain Federico Gayagas, 44, and Samson Gonzaga, 41, of Barangay Ilijan in Bago, who were injured, are still confined at the hospital, Chief Insp. Jovil Sedel, Police Station 6 commander, said yesterday. moremoremore

2016 budget of Neg. Or.

After almost one year of deliberations, marred by mudslinging and political bickering, this year's executive budget of the province of Negros Oriental was finally approved with corresponding adjustments.

Unanimously approved on third and final reading yesterday is this year's budget of P2,138,344,911, during a special session of members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, presided over by Vice Governor Eduard Mark Macias.
