lauded at 31st Trade Fair

MAKATI CITY - Top government officials last night lauded Negrenses for their world class crafts, and trailblazing efforts at promoting slow food, tourism and biodiversity in Negros Occidental.

Tourism Secretary Wanda Corazon Tulfo-Teo, Senator Loren Legarda, and Agriculture Undersecretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, joined Negros Occidental officials, led by Acting Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson and Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia at the opening of the 31st Negros Trade Fair of the Association of Negros Producers at the Glorietta Activity Center here, that was signaled by the ringing of the Arimas bell.

Kagawad killed, 3 injured
in shootout with policemen

A barangay kagawad died on the spot, three others were initially brought to the hospital, and two were nabbed in a shootout between a group of men and the police at Rosario Heights Subdivision in Barangay Taculing, Bacolod City, at about 4 p.m. yesterday.

Based on the identification cards recovered from his body, the fatality was identified as Rodolfo Gayagas Jr.

Gayagas was a kagawad of Barangay Bacong in Bago City, Negros Occidental, as confirmed by the Bago City Hall personnel. moremoremore

Congress urged to pass law
on Negros Region creation

The Negros Oriental Chamber of Commerce and Industry is pushing for a bill that Congress could pass into law, creating the Negros Island Region, because an executive order has limitations.

NOCCI president Edward Du issued the statement following announcements that the NIR has limited budget appropriations for 2017.

The NIR was created by virtue of Executive Order 182, which then President Benigno Simeon Aquino III had signed May 29, 2015..
