Defending Champion Kenny Rogers/Black Mamba is one game away from claiming back-to-back titles after dismantling Monday night Chicken Deli 888, 98-86, to take Game 1 of the best-of-three championship series in the ABC-ENCLAVES Cup at the Ayala Northpoint Clubhouse.
It was the first victory for Kenny Rogers cagers over their rivals as Chicken Deli won both matchups during the elimination round.
But the win could have not come at the best time for the Roasters as they hope to clinch the championship tonight in Game 2.
Kenny Rogers took a systematic approach in beating the much-favored Chicken Deli, taking each of the four quarters of the game.
Robby Jalandoon, who led all scorers with 29 points, teamed up with Chac Mirano in the first quarter to combine for 23 of their team's 27 points to lead by four.
Luigi Coo carried the scoring cudgels for the Roasters in the second canto scoring 16 points to extend their advantage to five points.
Chicken Deli's offense sputtered in the third quarter as Kenny Roger's Reygin Oquiana, Snook Versoza and Jalandoon carried the scoring load increasing the lead to 10 with 12 minutes remaining.
The Roasters matched every Chicken Deli basket in the final quarter to protect their lead as they cruised to victory at the buzzer.
Coo finished with 21 points while Mirano and Bren Tajonera had 16 and 10 points, respectively.
Versoza chipped in 9, even as Oquiana, Brian Puentevella, Luigi Lacson and Bong Quinon combined for another 14 points.
Arjay Jamero paced Chicken Deli with 19 points, Nikol Medina and Hans Schulze made 16 and 14 points to finish in double figures.
Mark Jomalesa and Dante Ma scored 8 apiece, Biboy Cunada and Marlon Parreno put together 9 points.*
