“It was fantastic, it was fun”
That was how Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri last night described the Electric MassKara and fireworks competition along the Tourism Strip at Lacson Street in Bacolod City last night.
Zubiri said he congratulates Mayor Bing Leonardia for staging such an impressive party attended by thousands of very happy people, and for keeping it safe.
Zubiri and Leonardia led the countdown of the fireworks competition amid cheers from the expectant crowd who trained their cellular phones to the sky to capture the fireworks show.
Senior Supt. Flynn Dongbo, Bacolod City Police officer-in-charge, placed the crowd at 15,000, Leonardia said.
Competing last night was Planet DX Fireworks of Bukidnon against Tower Fireworks of Cotabato.
It was the third night of “Sadya ang MassKara with Mayor Bing: The 1st Mayor EvelioLeonardia Invitational Fireworks Competition.”
Four groups have already competed in the first two nights: Monarch Firecrackers of Hinigaran and E & B Fireworks of Bulacan, Wednesday at the Bacolod Government Center with a more than 5,000 crowd, and between Bathans Fireworks of Batangas and Pyro Kreation of Bulacan Thursday at the Bacolod Public Plaza, with more than 8,000 people watching.
Peacock Fireworks of Bacolod City will compete against AL Aquino Fireworks of Laguna tonight.
The Champion's Showdown will be on Sunday at the BGC, the last night of the 23-day MassKara Festival.
Energreen Power executive director David Tan is sponsoring the fireworks competition. He has turned over a check for P550,000 to MassKara Festival director Eli Francis Tajanlangit.
A subsidy of P30,000 was given to the eight participants.
The top 3 winners will be given P100,000, P50,000, and P30,000, respectively, for the Champions' Showdown.
Meanwhile, the street dance competition (schools category) will be held today, and the barangay category will be held tomorrow.
The street dance competitions will start at 3 p.m. from Araneta Street to the Bacolod City Public Plaza.*CPG/CGS
