SJI elementary basketeers to defend
NOPSSCEA title vs. USLS tomorrow

Defending champion St. John's Institute will face University of St. La Salle-IS in tomorrow's elementary basketball final of the NOPSSCEA Season 36 at the STI-West Negros University Gym.

NOPSSCEA basketball tournament manager Malot Lozada said the two top elementary teams in the league will face each other at 2:30 p.m. followed by the championship match in high school girls' basketball between University of Negros Occidental-Reccoletos and USLS.

The SJI Baby Falcons secured another trip to the final this year after routing St. Benilde School, 71-46, in the semi-finals while USLS blew away UNO-R Talisay, 64-40 in the other semis match-up.

The unbeaten UNO-R girls' basketball team, meanwhile, enjoys a twice-to-beat advantage against the USLS. In their Oct. 15 encounter, UNO-R drubbed USLS, 54-31.

The La Salle girls advanced to the final after escaping with a 52-47 victory against Riverside College in the semi-finals.

In high school boys' basketball, semi-final clashes among the top four teams are scheduled tomorrow morning, also at the STI-WNU Gym.

Defending champion Bacolod Tay Tung High School will play against La Salle at 9 a.m. followed by the 10 a.m. match-up between host STI-WNU and SJI.

The Tay Tung Thunderbolts are aiming for a back-to-back NOPSSCEA title after conquering the 2016 Milo Little Olympics Visayas leg and the Milo Passerelle Bacolod leg title last month.

BTTHS remained a top favorite in the semis after drubbing VMA Global College, 106-46, in the quarter-finals, while USLS made it to the top four after outplaying riverside College, 94-71.

The SJI Falcons secured a ticket to the final four after subduing the UNO0R Junior Rams, 89-76, while STI-WNU routed Notre Dame Talisay, 73-40.

St. Benilde and UNO-R Talisay elementary boys' basketball teams will play for third place at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow, while the championship game in the high school boys' division is scheduled 10 a.m. on Sunday.

If it is necessary, UNO-R and USLS will play for the play-off in girls' basketball 11 a.m. on Sunday.*NAB
