A second year college student was found dead in a sugarcane plantation in Purok Tinago Sambag, Barangay Alijis in Bacolod City, at about 6:20 a.m. yesterday.
The body of Melcah Melgar, 19, of Barangay Alijis, was found by her sister Imecar, a police report said.
The victim was lying on the ground, face down, both hands tied in her back with an orange handkerchief, and her pants slightly pulled down, police records show.
Her belongings were scattered at the crime scene, but her wallet and cellular phone were missing, the police said.
Recovered from the scene of the crime were Melgar's pink umbrella, sandals, school identification card, a black bag, and other personal belongings, police records show.
Carlos, her father, told the media that the victim went to school Tuesday but she failed to return home. He added that they tried to call her cellular phone, to no avail.
Chief Insp. Charles Gever, Police Station 7 commander, meanwhile, said they already requested the approval of the family for an autopsy on her body to determine the real cause of her death.
The police are also conducting follow-up operations to identify and arrest the suspect, Gever said.
Melgar was a student of the Carlos Hilado Memorial State College.*SGG
