Royal Star, Silver Dragon beat
rivals in Fil-Sino AACI cagefest

Royal Star Trading escaped JSY Countertrade, 84-81, while JSY Transport fell to its third straight loss in the hands of Silver Dragon Transport, 91-81, in the Fil-Sino All Asia Countertrade Inc. 2nd conference inter-color tournament at TTHS Po Hang Gym.

JSY Countertrade took a 23-11 advantage in the first quarter engineered by Mark Lo and Arnol Laureño but Royal Star stepped up in the second canto for a 47-34 halftime lead orchestrated by Sean Wee and Ramon Khey.

Brix Arrobang and Laureño combined for 11 points as JSY Countertrade drew closer to 67-57 at the end of the third quarter even as Wee delivered 8 points to keep the lead on Royal Star's side.

In the payoff quarter, Laureño was unstoppable in the shaded área as he scored 12 points while teammates Nico Lopingco and Lo chipped in 7 and 6 points, respectively, to cut the lead to as low as 3 points but a timely response from Chibon Uy and Chu sealed the win for Royal Star.

Wee led Royal Star with 25 points while Chu tallied 19, Ramon Khey drilled 11 points and dished out 7 assists while Chibon Uy scored 9 points, 8 rebounds and a couple of steals and blocks. Mark Velez made 6 points while Derek Sibug had 4 points, 10 rebounds and 3 assists.

Laureño topscored for Countertrade with 23 points, 14 boards, 3 assists and 3 blocks while Lo picked up 21 points and 5 assists, and Nico Lopingco with 14 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals.

In the nightcap, Silver Dragon's trio of Jason Yap, RB Chua and Aaron Arroyo conspired for 27 points to take a 31-20 lead in the first quarter against JSY Transport.

As the lead ballooned to as high as 17 points, JSY Transport slowly crawled their way back behind Tubby Villanueva and Leo Bat-Og for a 42-51 deficit at the break.

Joshua Chua scored 10 points while Bat-Og had 9 and Edward Uy with 6 points to spearhead the JSY Transport rally in the second half.

But the pinpoint passing of Silver Dragon players was in sync as they got away with several easy baskets while taking every opportunity to score with their fast break attacks. The balanced offence was led by Shinley Uy and Yan Yan Dy.

Yap led Silver Dragon with 14 points, Dy added 13, , RB Chua with 12 points, Uy hit 11 and Arroyo with 10 points.

JSY Transport was bannered by Bat-Og with16 points, 15 boards, 3 assists 2 steals, and 2 blocks while Chua had 13 points and 4 assists, Villanueva scored 9 points and registered 9 assists , Pao Pao Lim added 13 points and 13 rebounds.*
