Some 250 to 300 participants from Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao are converging in Dumaguete City for the two-day national staff meeting of the Department of Health.
DOH Secretary Paulyn Jean Ubial is expected to attend the meeting today and tomorrow at the Negros Oriental Convention Center in Dumaguete City, Dr. Socrates Villamor, the OIC chief, Local Health Support Division of the DOH-Negros Island Region, said.
The participants would include chiefs of hospitals of DOH regional hospitals, medical centers, chief of hospitals of rehabilitation centers, and DOH regional directors, Villamor added.
Also expected are representatives from attached agencies like PhilHealth, the Commission on Population, and the National Nutrition Council, among others.
One of the topics to be discussed will be the drug rehabilitation centers that government is putting up for the scores of drug dependents, who have voluntarily surrendered to the police after President Rodrigo Duterte launched an all-out war against the illegal drug trade.
Villamor is hoping that the participants, especially from Luzon, will make it to the meeting, even with the threat of super-typhoon Lawin.
So far, no flights to Dumaguete have been cancelled yet.*JFP
