3 Army officers promoted

Three Army colonels, who used to be assigned in Negros Island Region, were promoted recently, military records show.

Col. Franco Nemesio Gacal, former commander of the 11th Infantry Battalion in central Negros, has been designated as the commander of the 402nd Infantry Brigade in Surigao del Sur.

Gacal, a member of the Philippine Military Academy Class 1986, was replaced by his deputy, Col. Roy Galido (PMA Class 1990), as the new chief of the Army Resource Management Office.

Col. Jose Ely Alberto, former commander of the 62nd Infantry Battalion in northern Negros, is now the new Army Internal Auditor.

Alberto (PMA Class 1986) replaced Brig. Gen. Raul Farnacio, who is now the commanding general of the Army's 8th Infantry Division in Samar.

Farnacio also succeeded Maj. Gen. Jet Joel Velarmino, who retired from the military service on Oct. 6.

Velarmino (PMA Class 1982) used to serve as commander of the 6th Special Forces Battalion stationed in La Carlota City, Negros Occidental.

Col. Erwin Bernard Neri, former chief of staff of the Eastern Mindanao Command of the AFP, is now the new commander of Task Force Davao.

Neri (PMA Class 1988) used to be the commander of the 79th Infantry Battalion in southern Negros.*GPB
