New drug rehab center opens

A new rehabilitation center in Bacolod City was inaugurated yesterday to cater to drug dependents and individuals with behavioral problems.

The Better Days Ahead Rehabilitation Center located at Greensville Subdivision in Brgy. Villamonte can cater to 30 patients who are alcohol and drug abuse dependents, have computer addiction and behavioral problem like anger management disorder, to undergo treatment, recovery and intervention for six months.

“Drug addiction is a problem that has gripped the nation and through this facility, we are bridging the gap between implementation and rehabilitation of these dependents,” Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia said in a speech during the inauguration program.

The inauguration was attended by Bacolod City officials, PNP Police Supt. Santiago Rapiz, and some NGO representatives.

The center will be managed by the FARM Group of Facilities-Cebu and Family Wellness Foundation-Makati for the first six months of the operation.

FGF Chief Operating Officer, Alain Joseph Aliño, said that the center is a 1350 sq.m. house with five air-conditioned bedrooms, ventilated session halls, gazebo, gym, basketball court, swimming pool and yoga session halls to assure that the patients being treated feel like they are just in their homes.

“This rehab center will serve as a venue to help persons to accept that they have drug abuse problem and they have a life more than using it,” Aliño said, adding that “Surrendering is one step of recovering and doing away with it.”

Councilor Em Ang said that the city council is glad that there is this kind of facility in Bacolod because this is an immediate need for those who have drug use problems.

“I advise the families who have members under the influence of drugs to help them by sending them to professionals as early as they find out” Ang added.

Meanwhile Ang also said that the city council plans to create a barangay- based program for dependents who cannot afford to go to rehabilitation centers, as well as taking over the Reach Rehabilitation Center in Paglaum, Barangay Mansilingan.*MLG
