UNO-R, San Carlos win to jumpstart
U21 campaign in the DFL tournament

The University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos and San Carlos Under 21 booters registered their first win yesterday as the competition of different age groups of the Dynamic Football League 3 rd Conference started yesterday at the Sta. Maria Football Field in Talisay City and the Pana-ad Stadium in Bacolod City.

After a two-week layoff due to their academic commitments, the UNO-R team took time in shrugging off some rustiness before subduing Bago FC, 3-0.

In contrast, San Carlos went for an early attack for a 5-0 first half demolition of the Kabankalan FC.

UNO-R head coach Carlo Turbela assessed his team played only 60 percent of their actual capabilities and they need to work out on some of their weaknesses in preparation for their next game.

“We are up against strong teams. San Carlos and La Salle will be the tough teams to beat,” coach Turbela said.

“We will just try our best and hopefully advance into the top four,” he added.

Without some kinks in their finishing touches, San Carlos could have scored more than five goals in the first half against Kabankalan, their head coach John Carmona said.

“We are taking this one game at a time, hoping to get into the semi-finals,” coach Carmona said.

Meanwhile, young footballers in the 7-a-side age group categories braved the rains yesterday morning to attend the opening ceremony of the DFL 3 rd Conference at the Sta. Maria pitch in Talisay City.

In the opening games of the Under 9 Mix, Sum-ag Elementary School blanked Bata FC, 4-0, while Himamaylan FC prevailed over St. Carmen Salles Team A, 5-1 and Montevista Elementary School winning against Don Bosco Team A, 3-0.

Bata bounced back in their second game as they dealt St. Carmen – A their second loss, 5-0, while Himamaylan registered a back-to-back win with a 1-0 finish against Montevista.

La Salle-IS also recorded two victories in the first day of the tournament after outplaying St. Carmen – I, 4-0, and Don Bosco Team B, 7-0.

Trinity Christian School split their first two assignments with a 2-1 win against Kickers and a 0-1 setback against Don Bosco Team B.

Matches in all categories will resume on October 29 at the Sta. Maria and Pana-ad pitches.*NAB
